Quotes, invoices and payment

How we work

What holds people back from calling a stranger with the vehicle stopped is not doubting whether they can fix it: it is not knowing what the bill will look like. So we say it up front.

  1. 01

We talk on the phone first

Before setting off we ask what is wrong and where you are. Sometimes it is solved right there with nobody driving out and nothing to pay. If we do need to come, we give you a realistic arrival time.

  2. 02

We look, then tell you the price

On arrival the first thing is to see what it has. From that we give you a fixed price for the job. We do not start until you say yes, and if you would rather not go ahead, we stop there.

  3. 03

If something else turns up, we stop

We never extend a job on our own initiative. If stripping it down reveals something that was not visible, we stop, explain it and you decide.

  4. 04

If it cannot be fixed on the spot, we say so straight away

We will not keep you two hours on the hard shoulder only to say the same thing. We help you find a recovery truck, done by a third party since we do not tow, and you keep the diagnosis so the workshop does not charge you to look again.

What the cost is made of

You will not find a price list here, and that is deliberate: the cost depends on where you are, the hour and the part. What you can expect is to know the whole figure before we touch anything.

  • Call-out

Depends on where you are and the hour. An industrial estate at midday is not the same as the AP-7 hard shoulder at 3 a.m. on a Sunday.

  • Labour

The time the job takes. A wheel change and a strip-down diagnosis do not cost the same.

  • Parts

The part, the tyre or the consumable, if one is needed. You are told what it is and what it costs before it goes on.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you not publish a price list?

Because it would mean either inflating it to cover the worst case or falling short and having to correct it on arrival, which is exactly what nobody wants to hear with the vehicle stopped. The price depends on the place, the hour and the part. We would rather tell you on the phone, with your actual case in front of us, and fix it before touching anything.

Do you charge for coming out even if it cannot be fixed?

The call-out yes, because the van has driven out. What is not charged is a repair that was not carried out. And if the fault is solved over the phone with nobody driving out, there is nothing to pay.

Do you issue invoices?

Always, with VAT and in whatever name you tell us. It is valid for companies and for deduction. We accept the usual payment methods.

I run several vehicles. Can a price be agreed in advance?

Yes, and it is the sensible thing. With a fleet we agree pricing and priority response up front, so nothing has to be negotiated on the hard shoulder at three in the morning. Ask us for a quote and we will talk it through.
